Description
According to Volume 4 of The Success Books by Frances and Jay Marshall (pg. 108) The Funder Box is based on the little “Joker” box that was used with U.F. Grant’s Strat-o-Sphere:
When I bought the Stratosphere Balls trick, the outfit included a dandy little box for vanishing the large ball. This same box is now marketed separately under the name of “ Funder Box”. Framces and Jay Marshall – Volume 4 of The Success Books.
It is a great little box and basically a form of Gung Ho box. The Gung Ho box was invented by Ned Frailey and it was first released by Stuart Robson’s Conjurer’s Shop c. 1944. It has been released in many forms, under many names and by many dealers ever since. It is described in Dr Albo Volume 6 (pg. 77) under Folding Production Box and also Rice’s Silk Encyclopedia Vol. 1 (pg. 194). The Gung Ho box itself appears to be a variation of Jack Gwynne’s Flip Over Box c. 1929 but the Gung Ho seems cleaner to me as you appear to see all sides of the box.
Includes:
- The Funder Box.
- Three 14″ silks (bonus).
- One larger 24″ blendo silk (bonus).
- Complete with instructions for other ideas too.
Effect: Here is the great routine you can do out of the box:
- The box is shown clearly empty.
- You then reach in and retrieve three separate colored silks (blue, yellow and pink).
- The box is shown empty again.
- You then replace the silks in the box and wave.
- The box is shown empty again.
- One final wave and a large blendo silk is retrieved.
- The box is shown empty again.
An attractive magic prop, big enough for the stage. This cleverly designed box is made to produce, vanish or exchange silks, or small objects. Takes no skill. Use it at once. Well made, finished in bright, durable lacquer. A good trick with many possibilities.
