Description

A few years ago I acquired the wonderful item Big Chance by the prolific German magic craftsman and inventor Thomas Pohle. Unfortunately it was missing a small piece of paper used in the routine which meant I was unable to perform the effect. After contacting Thomas, Joe Long and others I still have come up short and so I have revised the method so that now you can see this pretty item in all of its glory.

I believe the selection method is now cleaner and still maintains the element of a game that the original item has. I hope you like it!

Included:

  • a cabinet with six drawers.
  • six dice that are kept in the bag provided (These are NOT used in this version).
  • a wooden board with six colors.
  • a small cupboard with six drawers each of which holds a coin or a token and has a different color on the bottom.
  • Six number chips to identify each color (bonus).
  • A special die to force the chosen color (bonus).
  • 5 gold like coins and a US penny (bonus).
  • Copy of original German instructions and English translation.

Effect: This is a Bank Night type of effect where the spectator has the opportunity to win a higher value coin (I’ve used some nice gold coins and a US penny but you could use any coins that fit), but of course they invariably win the penny.

The effect uses a wooden panel with six colored slots, six numbered chips, a single die, and a really nice wooden cupboard with six drawers that hold coins. The bottoms of the drawers have a color that matches with the wooden panel.

It begins: “Thank you for helping me! I want to show you a brand-new game from Las Vegas. It’s called “Big Chance”. Because you have a Big Chance to win really big! In this little cupboard there are six drawers and inside each one is a different valued collectible coin, such as here and here.”

The spectator then arranges the six chips into order and they are placed on the colors on the wooden platform. Now through a process of elimination the spectator slowly eliminates one chip after another and as they do they remove the corresponding drawer from cupboard and each time there is a small golden coin.

When the spectator gets to the final die – the red one – the last drawer is opened and sadly the spectator wins just a penny instead of the nice gold coins 🙁
