Description

This is a nicely made effect created by Tom Fitzgerald and sold by Al Cohen.  It is based on an earlier effect as Al Cohen details in the Effect section below. Tom Fitzgerald was a Semi-Pro comedy magician and Ventriloquist from the early 1940’s.  He was a Dealer from his home with Tom’s Magic Studio and perhaps his biggest claim to fame was that he created the Spikes Thru Coin or Spiked Coin effect.

King Tut’s Tablets is quite a novel item and I like how the picture of the tomb is part of the patter and yet it also doubles as a crib sheet.  When I first read through the instructions I didn’t fully understand what was going on, but when I read it again the method became crystal clear. Once you know which tablet they have secretly chosen (via a secret marking!) you’ll be golden.  I didn’t think the method would work, but in fact it works very cleanly.

Notice: As sold, the wooden tablets are unmarked and the instruction suggest a number of approaches to identify the tablets.  I’ve left them clean so you can choose your approach.  They are easy and quick to mark but depending on the approach you use it will allow you to see the tablets based on your eyesight and performing situation.

Effect:  BACKGROUND (by Al Cohen): In 1982 we presented a brand new effect from the fertile mind of TOM FITZGERALD. It was called “LAMIQ” (pronounced LAMIKEE). It used a wooden “fortunetelling log” which Contained pictures of “ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics.” The log was rolled by a spectator; a symbol was selected and you proceeded to name the selected symbol.

It was a knock-out effect that turned into a big seller for us. However there were some weak points to the method of selection plus the “log” was a bit awkward to carry around. So, after much “playing around,” we have come up with an improved handling and in place of the “log” we are supplying five lovely laminated oak wood tablets.

The five tablets are passed out for examination while you relate a story of how they were used by the “Prophets” in ancient Egypt to determine a person’s future. The plaques are turned face-down, and mixed freely on the table. Someone is requested to pick up any one of the pieces and remember one of the symbols on that particular tablet It’s a good idea to have him draw a picture of the selected design on a scrap of paper (keeping it secret from you, of course).

The spectator is now shown a picture of an Egyptian tomb and he is asked to find his symbol. It may be on the wall, the book, die um, or the sarcophagus. You explain that the picture has special “horoscopic meanings” that give you insight into his personality.

The spectator determines on which item (wall, book, um, or sarcophagus) that his symbol appears, and you mysteriously reveal h is chosen design!
