Before John Mendoza’s All Gone (c. 1978), Dean Dill’s Blizzard, Paul Richards’ White Bikes and others I’m sure, there was Horace Bennett’s Paleface Pasteboards.
Effect: It was Horace Bennett, who originated, this effect and Alan Alan and Hugh Miller in England who added some nice touches. It is included in this presentation because of these marvelous “Little Touches” that all join to sell the audience on the fairness of the deck of cards being used. There are some excellent lessons to be learned by paying attention to this routine, beside the fact that the surprise ending will bring you loud applause.
A deck of cards is shuffled and shown faces and backs. A card is openly selected and while the performer’s back is turned the card is replaced in the deck which has been spread on the table. The performer reassembles the deck and then names and shows the chosen card – in explaining how the trick was performed he spreads the deck face up to show that all the rest of the cards in the deck have blank faces.
