Description
Another Harry Potter themed effect that is easy to do and gets the kids involved and ensures that the birthday child feels special. What more could you ask for? Well made and laminated, jumbo sized cards.
Simple effects for simpler times 🙂
Effect: The backs of 5 jumbo cards are shown to the audience. You explain that you learned your magic from a great wizard, Professor Albus Dumbledore. Ask the children if they have ever heard of him? (Children around the world are familiar with the books and the movie, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.)
The faces of the cards are shown one at a time and the children are asked to identify each. This turns into a game of children’s trivia. The cards are then turned with the backs to the audience and shuffled by the performer.
Explain that the trick is to Find the Wizard! Explain that the guest of honor (the birthday child) has special magical powers on their birthday. The cards are placed on the performers table in a row with the backs to the audience. The performer says that 4 of the cards have to be eliminated and you ask the guest of honor to assist you. Ask the birthday child to point out one of his/her friends. Ask the rest of the children to sing happy birthday to that friend using the friend’s name. As the children sing, the performer counts along the row of cards, one card for each word in the song. That child’s card is the last one at the end of the song.
You explain that if it was the friend’s birthday their magic would help them find the Wizard! The friend’s chosen card is shown and it is not the Wizard This is repeated 3 more times with 3 different friends pointed out by the birthday child. All fail to find the wizard. The birthday child gets the last card and of course because it’s their special day, they find the Wizard.
