Description
This is a great little effect that seems similar to many chip effects years later. In fact this might be the one that inspired later “chip” effects from Sam Dalal, Per Clausen, and Eddie Gibson to name a few. Although the mechanism is slightly different than the later ones (a tight fit vs magnetism is used) which is why I’ve normally cited Sam Dalal as the one who began the real fascination in chips transforming.
It is easy enough to perform with a simple move that is very similar to Per Clausen’s Checker Chip – since to all intents and purposes this is the same chip set-up.
Effect: This precision made apparatus consists of a metal checker which is used to signify a traffic light. It is first shown as YELLOW. It then changes to GREEN and then to RED on BOTH sides.
