What a beautiful set of Dizzy Dominoes from the talented Dutch craftsman Gerard Scanlan who runs Gallus Magic in Holland.
I’ve tried quite a few variations of Dizzy Dominoes over the years and to make a good set of dizzy dominoes the contrast between the dots and background has to be clear, but also not reflect the light too much. Plus they have to be the right size to be easily seen and handled. These beauties are very smooth and flow between the moves perfectly and they come in a beautiful presentation case that also allows you to end clean too if you desire. Also the color of the oak is the same all the way through so, unlike painted sets, the color will not wear off even with intensive use.
Gerard includes his routine for a streamlined performance that anyone would be comfortable performing.
This is my first item from Gallus Magic and I hope there will be more to come in the years that follow. Great job Gerard 🙂

You hand the spectator a two and a five to hold and you have a two and a five in your hand. Yet in a blink of an eye, the spectator opens their hand and discovers they’re holding two two’s and you have two five’s. The box allows you to finish clean, so the dominoes can be examined.
Gallus Magic Routine: I tell my audience that my grandfather was a domino grand master. Everyone has heard of chess grand masters, but not so many of domino grand masters. Just like the top chess players can remember entire games, move by move in their heads, so too could my grandfather. He used to carry just a couple of pairs of dominoes ‘to keep his hand in’ when he was traveling. He bequeathed me his set.
I then demonstrate what he insisted was the essence of the game. Knowing what dominoes your opponent held. It would seem a simple matter but that is with everything in life, the simpler things seem, the more they conceal their complexity.
So my grandfather would hand me a double 2 and a double 5 and he would hold the same. Not much use if you wanted to win. And before I knew it, I held a pair of double 2s, but as he was the grand master, he held the pair of double 5s.
