Description
This is the most beautiful version of Jack Bridwell’s Mental Rope you will ever see. Beautifully created by Louis Paul in Canary and Purple Heart wood, with hand rubbed oil and wax finish. Brass, copper and leather are use for the sword and hardware.
This effect was invented by Jack Bridwell in the late 1970’s (Linking Ring, August 2001, pg 166-168), and featured in Supreme Magic’s Magigram (May 1989, pg 590). However, it was re-invented by Al Glennan c. 2001 and sold exclusively by Davenport’s until 2019 when the USA “rights” were granted to Stevens Magic here. But none of the previous versions by Supreme, Davenport’s, or Stevens Magic get close to the exquisite detail and beauty of Louis Paul’s version. Louis’ version works incredibly smoothly and looks totally stunning.
The effect is very easy to learn and perform but at the same time a real mystery to explain. It has a different outcome every time, there is nothing added or taken away and everything can be examined too.
Effect: Many variations of presenting this effect are possible, here is one.
Performer introduces the cabinet then points out there are five different colored ropes protruding through brass portholes from each side. The lid is closed, but the audience can see the handle & the point of a small sword laying lengthwise inside the cabinet.
Performer states: “Before the performance, I selected one of the colored ropes and tied a knot around the blade of the sword, preventing it from being removed through the brass portholes. By using thought control, I will attempt to control the audience’s color choice so the last rope, the one no one chose, would be the one that is tied around the sword”.
As the audience choses a color, performer pulls that color rope completely through the cabinet. (Performer can pull the rope from either side of the cabinet, it doesn’t matter.) One by one the ropes are selected and removed from the cabinet until there is just one left.
The performer pulls on that rope from one side… but wait, something is holding the rope. Performer then tries pulling the rope from the other side, but it too does not come out. Performer then opens the lid to revel that the rope is tied around the sword.
Sword can be removed from the cabinet with the rope tie on to the blade. Everything can be examined as there is nothing to hide.
Club Size model measures 7” length x 4” wide and stands 4” tall. The sword is 13.25” in length, made of brass & copper which includes a 4” leather wrapped handle.
Brass porthole covers & cabinet feet are machined from solid brass and attached with brass screws. You will receive five (5) different colored, cotton ropes with matching hand whipped ends.
A limited number will be made. Each cabinet is numbered, and the Louis Paul hallmark is stamped into the cabinet & sword. Easy to follow printed instructions are included.
