Description
This lovely effect was created by Harry Nicholls and released by Supreme Magic initially c. 1960 and then again c. 1977. This is the original version released in the 1960’s. The routine does not really change between the versions but there are some improvements to the cards and folders.
As released it does not come with any stands and Supreme recommend the use of their Rigid 4-Ace Stand (of course they do!). I have included two easel like stands which are shown in the photos and work perfectly well for the routine. If you have their 4-Ace Stand I’m sure that would be even better.
The routine is another really good routine for the younger children and follows along with the well know story of Cinderella so you are sure to capture their imagination. There are mulitple sucker bits to get the kids screaming and I feel like this has a little more meat than some other similar effects.
Effect: The story of CINDERELLA illustrated by magic. A New Children’s Routine by Harry Nicholls. A Supreme Exclusive.
This is a delightful effect. The story of Cinderella, told in details and illustrated throughout with large, beautifully colored pictures and props. Briefly the effect is this: a picture of Cinderella in her rags is shown and placed into a holder with a cut-out front representing a kitchen. The picture is removed, the children shout the Magic spell and Cinders’ rags change and she is seen to be wearing a Beautiful Party Gown.
Two cards with pictures of Coachmen are next shown and Cinders is placed between them. The three cards are placed into a folder decorated with horses and a golden coach. The clock strikes twelve and Cinders disappears!
The coachmen are removed but the children see the edge of a card sticking from the folder. After some by-play this is removed and is seen to bear the picture of something she left behind, The Golden Slipper!
The Magician holds the folder suspiciously and the audience ask to see inside. Eventually it’s shown and there’s a Pumpkin and a couple of mice! Still not satisfied the audience demand to see the back of the Slipper card. After some reluctance, this too is shown. It shows something else Cinderella left behind – THE TWO UGLY SISTERS! A big laugh and surprise!
BUT WHERE IS CINDERELLA?
The Magician states that she is back in the kitchen but when this is shown it is still empty! More Magic words and Cinderella appears inside!
BUT WHAT’S THIS? – THE BACK OF ANOTHER CARD CAN NOW ALSO BE SEEN. This proves to be a picture of PRINCE CHARMING HIMSELF and the two pictures are placed on a stand. The Magician readies into the air and magically produces a handful of confetti which he showers over the happy pair to bring the story to its lovely, logical conclusion.
The trick is not just “easy to work “- it’s SO simple you’ll find it a positive joy and the children will follow the age-old story they know so well closely and intently. Despite this the trick is by no means lacking in ACTION or AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION and the various “sucker bits” incorporated into the routine keep the children really “on their toes” happy and excited.
