Description
Wow what a rare beauty this is 🙂
This is really something different for sure. Perfectly made, great looking, and entertaining routines, that are easy enough to perform with a little practice. There are two main routines detailed below as Effect 1 and 2. Effect 2 is easier to do and really doesn’t require any great skills and the only move is called the Gypsy Switch which is cleanly explained in the instructions and really is just a flick of the silk hanky.
The harder thing might appear to be adding the coin to the very well gimmicked watch but when the great Fred Kaps used to perform this he would simply have his hands behind his back while the audience were participating. Like all well planned routines if the tricky things (mentally or physically) are performed at the correct moments most of the stress (guilt?) is taken away from the performer. Once you perform it a few times all of those fears tend to fade. I used to worry about John Kennedy’s Mystery Box for years until I finally performed it live and the response was so great I’ve been doing it ever since without issue.
Based on my practices today for the Speed Demo I kept this for a couple of years but now is the time to release it on my auction site 🙂
(Notice: use your own glass and cocktail stick.)
(Notice: in a normal performance you would not start with your watch on the table, that was just for the Speed Demo to demonstrate the watch was empty beforehand.)
Effect: Congratulations! You have purchased the first-ever authorized version of the Scotty York Marked Coin-to-Wrist Watch ever made available to the general magic community. This effect and routine has been closely guarded, by myself and a very few close friends I’ve shared it with, over the past two decades.
Now, for the first time, I’m releasing the version that I’ve used behind the bar for over 20 years. It is unquestionably the most practical of the several versions I’ve developed utilizing a wrist watch. This is also the version that I shared with the late Fred Kaps. Fred used the routine frequently and told me on several occasions that it was his favorite, of all the routines I developed and shared with him. The watch has been specially re-designed, with improvements that even Fred was not aware of.
The props in your possession have been hand-made to my exacting specifications, incorporating my latest design improvements and ideas. You receive everything you need to perform this mystifying, entertaining, practical, and commercial routine. You need add nothing save an indelible marker.
One of Scotty York’s most closely guarded routines for over two decades and one for which the demand has been most intense. This was the effect that the late Fred Kaps said was his favorite of all of Scotty’s many routines. The thirteen page spiral bound instruction book includes the exact routine performed by Fred Kaps and by Scotty York on the A-l Multimedia video “Professional Tricky Bartender”, Volume 1.
The basic plot is that a quarter or similar size coin is freely and fairly marked by a spectator and transposes in the hands of the spectator to a watchworks. The exact coin marked by the spectator is now found to be inside the wristwatch worn by the magician. The coin with mark is clearly visible under the crystal of the watch. The watchworks held by the spectator are actually those from the watch. The watch may be worn all the time. It looks ordinary in every way, yet will receive a marked quarter at any time! Only a very limited number of these watches have been manufactured !
Effect 2: Two spectators each initial a quarter with an indelible marking pen. The performer places each spectator’s initialed coin into his/her respective hand and requests that it be held tightly. It is next explained that the two coins will change places, spectator #1 receiving spectator #2’s coin and vice-versa. The first spectator opens his/her hand and indeed finds the coin of the other spectator. When the second spectator opens his/her hand the works of a wristwatch is found. When the performer’s wristwatch is shown, the first spectator’s initialed coin is seen sealed inside under the crystal.
Effect 3: The performer borrows a handkerchief and places a marked coin onto it, gathering the four corners, so the coin is suspended in the bag so formed. The bag is held by the spectator and a second spectator is instructed to hold a lit cigarette lighter under the bottom of the bag. The performer assures the owner of the handkerchief that the metal mass of the coin will absorb the heat, thus protecting the cloth of the handkerchief from harm. When the performer apparently notices the handkerchief smoking, the experiment is aborted. When the spectator is asked to retrieve the marked coin from the handkerchief, the works of a wristwatch are discovered. The marked coin is found sealed inside the performers watch.
