This item is a beautifully crafted from natural hard woods by the Italian performer, inventor, and craftsman Mario Andreoli under the Loran Magic banner and distributed by everybody’s favorite collectible magic dealer: Joe Long.
When I first received this wonderful item from Joe I loved the look, the quality of the the materials, and the method but I thought “Here we go more memory work!” 🙁
If only I’d spent five extra minutes to read the instructions I would have realized there is no memory work after all. Which immediately changed my view from it being just a beautiful item to a beautiful and amazing item 🙂
The method combines elements from Alan Warner’s The Question Is and Andy Nyman’s “Three Skulls on a Spike” (which of course is based upon Tony Curtis’ Die-Abolical originally created c. 1989) but the final effect seems cleaner and fairer than either.
I love this item and I think you will be more than pleased with it. Hopefully this won’t be the last time we see some fine wooden magic from Loran Magic and Joe Long 🙂
Effect: “Yuanfen” – A Chinese concept halfway between Karma and Destiny. Often referred to as “the written way”. This new effect represents exactly that – a pre-written path to a destination known … only to the magician.
Here is some background information from the creator of Yuanfen – Mario Andreoli.
The creation of this effect sees the influence of two beautiful works by two Masters: Alan Warner and Andy Nyman. “The question is” by Warner and “Three skulls on a spike” by Nyman were, together, the starting point of the creative thinking that led to the birth of Yuanfen.
The goal was to have more objects to choose from, but also a system for managing the choices that was all written and present, right from the start, before the eyes of the spectator. A clean and, practically, automatic system.
With “Yuanfen” I can say that I have achieved the goal. Yuanfen is composed of two elements: the Way and the Goal.
The Way (28cm x 10cm x 4,5cm) is handcrafted in solid wenge, African mahogany and beech wood. Except for the four gold rings and the small internal panels, all the wood is natural with a light polishing treatment. The gold rings are hand turned in beech. The Way conceals the actual method of the effect and is designed to make managing the various outs extremely easy to operate.
The Goal (17cm x 10cm x 8,5cm) is handmade in solid European walnut, African mahogany, wenge and beech wood. Except for the inside of the doors, the external symbol and the central decorative element, all the wood is natural with a light polishing treatment. The hardware and the pin are all in solid brass. The goal contains six colored rings that are reminiscent of Chinese coins. Finally, under the pin there is a container in which there is the prediction.
Every element is taken care of down to the smallest details. The choice of materials, all top quality, is dictated by functionality and aesthetics.
The Effect: After explaining the concept of Yuanfen, the magician declares that, under the center compartment, there is a prediction.
Guided by “The Way”, the spectator will make four absolutely free choices until he places one of the six rings on the pin.
In the container under the pin there will be exactly the same color chosen.
The Way allows you to control all the possible outs and bring the viewer, in a clean way, to the color we want.
